Scientific Name: Apalone sp. (Trionyx spiniferus-spiny/Trionyx muticus-smooth)

Softshell turtles are native to the Central and Eastern United States where they inhabit rivers, lakes, marshy streams, and ponds.

Maximum size: 9-18”

Lighting: Full spectrum fluorescent UV bulbs are required.

Temperature range: 70°F –86F°

Food: Appropriate size feeder fish, earthworms, crickets, waxworms, mealworms, and pinkie mice.

Housing/Habitat: An aquarium a deep layer of fine sand for burrowing. The aquarium should be equipped with a submersible heater to keep the water at the proper temperature.  A good aquarium filter and frequent water changes are required to keep the water clean.
